Do your insides jump for joy when you see a perfectly frosted cupcake or cookie? Or do you love the look of violet lavender syrup or a mouthwatering strawberry and lime jam? Or are you more of a savory person and melt when you see a jar of homemade salsa or seasoned nuts with just the right amount of spices?

If food excites you as much as it does me, you just might be a foodie. And in today's food-centered world, there is serious money to be made with your passion.

Food consumption has really changed in the past decade, and now more than ever, people want to know what's in their food, where it came from and who made it. That's bad news for businesses that mass produce food, but great news for those in the cottage food industry.

You see, in the past individuals who wanted to sell food were required to involve the state health inspectors and lease commercial kitchens in order to sell to the public. Obviously, that prevented a lot of people from pursuing their food dreams. But now many states have passed cottage food laws that are designed to give home chefs and bakers the right to produce products from their homes and sell them to the public.

I've opened and closed many businesses in my lifetime, and there's nothing I love more than taking an idea and turning it into a smoothly run, profitable business. And this book was born of that desire.

The information was very practical and useful, but I was amazed that this book seemed to have been published without being proof-read. it had many misspelled words (desert instead of dessert!), some punctuation issues and grammar issues, such as too many sentences beginning with "So". If you can overlook these things (was distracting to me), it is worth getting.

How to Start a HomeBased Food Business Turn Your Foodie Love into Serious Cash (Audible Audio Edition) Sam Kerns Anna Crowe RainMaker Press Books Reviews

Sam Kerns is a handsome serial entrepreneur who has spent the past 20 years writing about small business issues, opportunities he loves teaching people how to work for themselves and pursue their own dreams. He proved this in his first publication HOW TO WORK FROM HOME, then in Book 2 HOW TO BUILD A WRITING EMPIRE IN 30 DAYS OR LESS, and now takes his Work form Home Series concept a step further in actually discussing another particular kind of home business in HOW TO START A HOME-BASED FOOD BUSINESS, continuing to demonstrate why he is so successful is he in communicating his experience and ideas.

Sam introduces his subject with some facts – ‘Food consumption has really changed in the past decade or so, and now more than ever, people want to know what’s in their food, where it came from and who made it. That’s bad news for businesses that mass produce food, but great news for those in the cottage food industry. You see, in the past individuals who wanted to sell food were required to involve the state health inspectors and lease commercial kitchens in order to sell directly to the public. Obviously, that prevented a lot of people from pursuing their food dreams. But over the past few years, many states have passed cottage food laws, and these special laws are designed to give home chefs and bakers the right to produce products from their homes and sell them to the public… there are some general guidelines that apply to most state’s cottage laws. Here are some things that you might need to get started. (Again, be sure to check the guide for your state to be sure.) A business license A kitchen inspection A zoning permit A rule about pets. (Some states won’t allow them in your home, others forbid them in the kitchen, while other states don’t specify any rules about pets.)’ That offers a view of how serious Sam is about his subject matter.

In addition to being just fine reading Sam offers advice in each of these categories - Can I Really Sell Food Made in My Own Kitchen?, Is a Food Business Right for You?, Food Ideas and Recipes for Every Palate, How to Design a Food Brand That Sells, The Well Stocked Food Business What You Need to Become a Success, How to Buy Ingredients and Packaging at Wholesale Prices (And Where to Find Them), How to Price Your Product for Sales AND Profit, Where Will You Sell Your Homemade Foods?, Growing Up How to Take Your Cottage Food Business to the Next Level, and finally Cottage Food Laws State by State.

Sam Kerns is a man we’d like to meet, perhaps share a coffee, and pick his smart brain for even more ideas. But hopefully he will continue writing these excellent books and keep us thinking and enjoying life! Grady Harp, August 16

Amazing find!!! Sam helped me start my own CFO by providing useful information and guidelines for getting my food produce off the ground!
This book was not only an inspiration to me but I think somewhat of a lifesaver. My whole life I've dreamed of owning a restaurant but it didn't seem financially possible. I picked up this book one day when I was feeling like I would never accomplish my dream of being able to make money by creating food for others. After reading this book I started my own business and have already enjoyed huge success. Every single day I work very hard at something that I love and earn a good living doing it. Thank you so much Sam for your wonderful book! Highly recommended book. Also beware of the idiot that posted the one star review. People like to use authors reviews for their political platforms shame on them.
It is difficult to take an author, on this subject, seriously when he writes about "artesian bread" (instead of artisan bread). And I didn't need his anti-Obama references (re ultra-conservative Chick-fil-A) -- I don't care how many brownies he has baked. Serial entrepreneur who likely makes money NOT on the subject of this book but on writing books about making money by writing books.
Great information. Love this kindle book.
